eBay Advocacy Day 2017

Recently, I was invited to Washington  DC to  attend eBay’s Advocacy Day on Wed May 3, 2017 as part of a group of about 20 businesses from across the US.  It was a wonderful chance to network, learn, and  talk about the challenges we face as small businesses.  eBay Advocacy Day is an annual event out together by the eBay Government Relations Team.  The team set up meetings with our representatives in the Senate and Congress where we talked about internet tax, open trade, NAFTA, and how government regulations affect our business.  We also visited the White House for a meeting with Andrew Bremberg, the Assistant to the President and the Director of the Domestic Policy Council and Michael Kratsios, the Deputy Assistant to the President and Deputy U.S. Chief Technology Officer.  The lines of communication were open and information exchanged.

That week we were in Washington also happened to be Small Business Week – April 30th to May 6, 2017 so it was doubly exciting to be in Washington for this celebration.

And after the hard work, comes the celebration.   The  eBay team set up a Seller Showcase at Eastern Market and treated us to a party.  Here’s a video from the Hey Viv ! Booth.

Jewelry Love <3

One of my favorite things to do is go through a box of jewelry – it feels a bit like Christmas.  I often buy  jewelry lots so I don’t always know what to expect when I open a box.   It may be a tangled heap of beads, charms, and pins, so I have all the fun of sorting.   It helps to divide everything into categories like necklaces, earrings, bracelets, etc.  That way when I am ready to take pictures I can concentrate on one style at a time.  Some days I am in a necklace mood so I look for all the pendants I have.  Other days I want to see sparkle so it is rhinestone time. This makes it easier with the photo studio setup too.

There’s one big drawback that I still haven’t conquered after all these years… I want to keep it all !  So…  maybe one piece goes to me and the rest goes before the camera ready for the close up picture and ready to list.

Shop my collection of Vintage Jewelry on Ebay at bit.ly/HeyVivVintageJewelry  and see the new pieces I have discovered.

Bad Woods – Vintage for mwestdances

I am currently  working on costumes for <<bad woods>> a new dance performance by choreographer Melissa West of mwestdances.  Ms. West recently contacted me about providing a vintage look for her dancers using 1950’s dresses and lingerie.  She described to me a vision of dark and light and mystery.  After conversations and rehearsal meetings we decided on a muted pink, cream and ivory color palette with touches of blue grey.  Cotton day dresses are mixed and layered with lace slips to provide a contrast against the dark woods.

Now the fittings and rehearsals begin in earnest…..

In <<bad woods>>, choreographer/director Melissa West explores the liminal emotive space that resides in the woods. Three dancers build on a soundscape that delves into dualities of light and dark, the night, the mysteries and enigmatic states of wildness that exist within the feminine; the constructs and unraveling of performativity.
